The way I generated this idea was firstly by taking the initials of my name. Working with the letters A and B really tested me. I tried to find characteristics of the both and work them together to come up with something conceptual. Drawing both letters together the horizontal line that both letters have struck me. Trying different methods of trying to combine this concept together, I then took the form of a circle. I started out with just the outline of a circle with a cross in the middle, picturing the structures of both an A and B. I then separated the circle into sections distinguishing the letter to a further extent.
I took the existing shape generated and played with the colours used. I inverted design making the logo while and the background black. This sets a more defined and distinguished image. I believe it works effectively to catch the every of the viewer as the combination of both black and white create a great contrast that is emphasised by the intermix of colour. It’s a simple innovative design, which I believe will be effective in targeting the audience.
In choosing a font I went for something simple but effective. I believe, when marketing a fashion label in the retail market, simplicity is effectual to the eye of the consumer. It resembles quality and trust to the viewer, which in turn reflects the attributes of the designer. I looked at existing well-known labels that used the same approach. By looking at the David Jones and Nicola Finetti labels there was a great contrast generated with the use of black or white space and combination of invert colour.
In my final label design I combined the use of both the letterform and the shape of the logo initially generated. The shape of the logo forms a ground for the composition. The logo resembles sophistication and simplicity in the same token. It will appeal to the audience as it will strike them as a classy label and then enforce trust in product. It’s the cleanness of the label, which I really admire. It reflects the designer with its creativity but also reflect the concept of quality as a basis the garments designed.
The way that this communication piece will be displayed is on the following swing tag. It showcases the sophisticated design, presents a barcode and gives a description of the garment i.e. Size, style, colour and price. This swing tag will be placed on every garment the designer produces for sale on the retail market. I truly believe the selection of black and whit adds to the sense of elegance to both the garment and the designer. A balance between the writing and the logo is generated through sizing and placement. The symmetrical balance establishes harmony in the work, it helps to create successful visual communication piece. This composition is seen to be stable, static and passive which creates that sense of conformity. It truly does resemble not only the label in itself, but the designer.
