Hero

A hero is a man or woman of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his or her brave deeds and noble qualities. Someone who is seen as a heroic possesses certain special characteristics. A hero is loyal to their people and they often sacrifice their life for others. They are dedicated to what they have to accomplish. They are focused and show bravery. Many people recognize them and show them continuous honor.

Heroes are appreciated and respected. They are not always perfect, nor do they realize that they are heroes. They have flaws and a true hero can admit to these flaws. They make mistakes just like you and I, but it is all about how they rise above from these mistakes. This definition, along with the characteristics, can describe Oedipus, as well as Hecuba. Both of these characters were faced with difficult situations along the way, but rose up from them. They handled them to the best of their capabilities. I feel that they learned important lessons as well.

Oedipus, who is the King of Thebes, was an intelligent person. He was confident and his people looked up to him and respected him. His pride was extremely important to him. From the beginning, he thought that he had never done wrong to anyone. He thought that he had been a wonderful ruler, but he was not as perfect as he thought. He was mentally blind about the truth of himself. In the beginning of the story, he is trying to find who had murdered a man. This man was his father. He was actually the one who had killed his own father. He does not want to believe that he was the murder. He finally learns that he was the one who killed him at the end of the story.

Although he had done wrong throughout the story, he was able to admit that he was wrong in the end. He knows within himself that he is not perfect. A hero should be able to admit when he or she is wrong. They should accept that they are not perfect. Even though he had murdered his father, he still dealt with this horrible tragedy which makes him strong and he admits what he had done was wrong. Someone who is strong can be considered a hero. Someone who is faced with challenges and handles them to the best that the can, can be considered a hero.

Hecuba, who is the Queen of Troy, is a natural born leader. She is considered strong and tries to keep everyone around her strong. Many things happen right before her eyes. These situations were extremely hard to see and get through. If a weak person had been in her shoes, they would have never been able to get through such hardships. Her own grandchild dies right in front of her. She looses two sons and a daughter. Her husband is also killed.

After all of this happens she still keeps moving forward with a positive attitude. Many of the women look up to her and respect her. She keeps everyone around her at ease. She is an example of a Hero. She shows many of the same qualities as a hero. She is a leader and grounds herself. In the end, she is looked up to with much respect. The people around her are moved by her. Usually, women are not portrayed as strong or brave in plays and in society. They are sometimes seen as emotional and weak. It can be said that we are unable to handle certain situations. This was definitely not the case in this particular play.

Both of these characters and these plays can teach valuable lessons to the reader. We can relate to these characters in different ways. Many of us are faced with difficult challenges and obstacles each day. It is all about how we rise up from each of these bumps in the road. We learn more and more about ourselves when we really show that we can be brave and courageous. Both of my parents are considered heroes to me. My mom is an example of a hero. She had been taking care of my father while he was sick with Cancer. She had to stay strong for him, for us, and for herself. Someone whom she had been with her whole life and whom she had loved was now going to be taken away from her. She had to see this person suffer, but she still stuck though it and did the best she could. Her and my father had always provided for us. They were leaders and we had looked up to them. They were true examples of hard work and dedication. They would help us with anything we had needed and always supported us with our decisions. My father was a hero because you could see his strength shining through even in the toughest of times. He always tried his best to make us happy and he succeeded. My mom and my dad are two natural born heroes that I will always look up to and admire for the rest of my life and each of them have taught me what it means to be strong and determined.
