Miner Fever

Miner Fever is not actually a fever, as a fever goes away after a few days. Miner Fever is a permanent condition, one of pride and school spirit. Miner Fever is not just a campus epidemic, it is a citywide epidemic, and it shows no signs of being cured.

It is difficult to define Miner Fever in one word, but you know you have it when you hear it, see it, or feel it. So what is Miner Fever? To me, Miner Fever is the pride I have in the university’s intellectual values, the academic opportunities, scientific research, and humanistic accomplishments. It is boasting proudly about our history-making basketball game and about the first Miner in space. It’s the feeling you get when you walk on campus, attend a game, or when you wear UTEP’s colors. Miner Fever is being proud of our school and the students that attend here, past, present, and future. It is an electrifying excitement that is present everywhere. It is singing the school song proudly and loudly. It possesses us to paint our faces, dance wildly, wear ridiculous wigs and costumes, or do the wave at a game. Miner Fever is camaraderie, friendships, accomplishments and everlasting memories.

Spreading Miner Fever is exciting and a natural instinct for me. I attend athletic events and support the many various organizations and their n campus. I promote our school’s academic opportunities and encourage graduating high school students to pursue their college education at UTEP. Anytime I go out of town, I proudly wear my UTEP to show people how proud I am to be a Miner!
