Personal Theory of Nursing

Introduction

In any form of theory, the evidence has to be interpreted and critiqued by each person who considers that the proposed theory can be applied in a particular practice situation. The personal nursing theory is connected with the personal knowing which does not “knowing one’s self” but rather knowing how to be authentic with others, by knowing their personal style of being with another person.

Nursing Theory

The Nursing Theory has been established its influence among the nurses and other practitioners. The theory emphasizes the promotion of health in each individual and relying in the improved technology can make a cure for a disease. Empirics or the science of nursing that is verifiable because of the factual descriptions, explanations, or predictions based on subjective or objective group data. This data is scientifically based research (Fawcett, et al., 2001).

Ethics or the ethics of nursing is another type of theory that describes about the moral obligations, moral and opposite values, and desires ends. The standards of practice, codes of ethics, and philosophies of nursing are the useful foundations of identification, analysis and clarification of beliefs and values (Fawcett, et al., 2001). Personal or the interpersonal relationships of nursing is the type of nursing theory is concerned with the expressions of the quality and authenticity of the interpersonal process between each nurse and each patient. The gestures of communicating like opening for a story, thinking, listening, and reflecting can build a strong relation and trust between the patient and a nurse (Fawcett, et al., 2001).

Aesthetics or the art and act of nursing is the expressions of the nurse’s perceptions of what is significant in an individual patient’s behavior. The proper act should be done, specifically according to what the nurse had learned from the past and envisioning the possibilities for the possible outcomes (Fawcett, et al., 2001). Personal knowing is meant by therapeutic nurse patient relationships which was developed by means of opening and centering the self to thinking about how one is or can be authentic, by listening to responses from others, and by reflecting on those thought and response (Fawcett, et al., 2001).

Personal Theory of Nursing

An application of nursing theory in practice depends on nurse having the knowledge and theoretical works as well as an understanding of how philosophies, models, and theories can relate to each other. The essence of nursing and its practice is the representation of the evolution of nursing as a profession and practice domain. The principles of the science of nursing, legal parameters, the definition of person, environment, health, and nursing are part of the essence of nursing practice. The technical skills and other useful knowledge can be a good foundation in pursuance of the nursing practice (Sell and Kalofissudis, 2005). The personal nursing theory comprises the framework of four paradigms that are all working together in nursing programs.

The human beings are defined as individuals who are capable of conscious and organized thought who have inherent physiological and psychological needs. These individuals are not predefined but get defined in the course of living a life, where the mind, body, and spirit are integrated as one. The patient’s needs and problems must be evaluated in an individualized way but and considering the patient’s personal values and needs. The medical attendant must first weigh the attitude and behavior of a patient that can be applied in assessing the patient’s illness (Ioanna, 2003).

Environment is the call for the human relationships. It is viewed through the representations of personal, social, national, and global dimensions, physical, psychosocial, cultural diversity, historical development, economic and political aspects are taken considerations. All the nurses and other medical practitioners create the path of these health attendants towards the career goal. The environment cannot stop that activity for the attitude towards the environment in the way to determine the essence of the activity that the medical team established (Ioanna, 2003).

There are various changes and people undergo in the health care system, educational system, and in social system that affect the technology and vice versa. The changes in values may influence the psychological and physical condition of people and, therefore, these conditions can cause changes in the environment and in health care system. All these interacting factors can create a way of thought, action and reaction.

Health is a dynamic process and with the synthesis of wellness and illness. The definition of the wellness or illness can be seen evidently on the experience that can be mediated by caring relationships. A sample factor that can create impact on health is the stress that is disrupting the wellness. A right coping can restore the balance based on the individual experiences. Health is a harmonious relationship between factors which affect human behavior and the individual’s physical, psychological characteristics and values. Each of individual’s opinion towards the health and diseases plays a significant part in determining the degree of individual’s expressed health (Ioanna, 2003).

Nursing practice is the development and progression of the nursing practitioner through study and clinical demonstration. The nursing role also involves moral or ethical and professional dimensions. The nurses of the present time are committed to effectively meet the demands of the time. Therefore, must define the values that can rule and drive the professionalism in the medical society. The responsibility, bravery, sincerity, freedom, compassion, respect, consistency and consciousness, patience, self-respect, and justice are the basic strengths that all of the nurses can consume (Ioanna, 2003).

Conclusion

The nursing practice, nursing education, nursing administration, and nursing research should be continuous in developing and innovation to achieve the health and wellness for everyone. Despite to the fact that nursing education and professional practice is in a stage for development, there is still a greatest absent from all the significant decisions made by those who are responsible for the health of the people. Nursing is considered as a combined knowledge on art and science, which can undertake the responsibility for the nursing attendance of all people, healthy and sick. The attitude for the combined thought of nurses in analytical and critical approach in assessing and handling individual needs is very effective. The nursing process has given the nursing new perspectives and has facilitated nursing to handle the various health problems more responsibly.
