A Rose That Grew Through the Cracks of Concrete

“A Rose That Grew Through the Cracks of Concrete”-Tupac Shakur. Rarely in life do we find positive things that blossom from a negative environment. However, it isn’t necessarily impossible. With enough faith and courage, I believe that I can be evidence for this fact.

Bang, bang, bang! This is the familiar sound of gun shots that roar through my neighborhood. Imagine speaking to someone on Sunday, going to school with them on Monday and showing up to their funeral on Saturday. This is an everyday affair in my community in which crime serves to be the blame. Violence has been no stranger to the community I live in, as an effect people have become immune to the negativity. I myself have been the victim in many robberies that still live vividly in my head. It has even gone to the extremity of neighbors becoming the new owners of my bike.

The streets breathe out violence that young children inhale. Sadly many are influenced by the unconstructiveness of the environment. Though parents reinforce the importance of education, the streets have already corrupted and claimed the minds of many young ones. These children, though with a possibility of bright futures, prove to yet another negative statistic. In response, accomplishing very little and never truly embracing their opportunities.

Despite this I can not belittle my environment, but can only be thankful for who it has made me today. Because of my environmental surroundings, I have become inclined to trounce any negative barriers by maintaining my own barrier of prosperity. With everything I have seen and learned through my neighborhood I am deeply motivated to enter an outstanding University. For this reason I decided to enter Florida State University, which is one of the best Universities in the state of Florida.

I plan to major in Business Administration. In doing so my objective is not only to maintain a successful career, but also to be a role model to the kids in my community. I believe that if I obtain such a degree, I can demonstrate to many youngsters that if you are capable of maintaining an illegal business, than you have great potential of maintaining a legit business. This demonstration may not be able to help every child, but may very well connect to and help at least one individual. That in its self, is enough reward to satisfy me.

Today, I have mission that I must complete on a journey that has just begun. I have lives or maybe just one life that strongly depends on me. I must impact these lives in a positive way in hopes of a better tomorrow. I am a hardworking dedicated student with a strong desire to succeed on her calling mission. Despite the obstacles, I will not give way or compromise with failure for it only leads to a dead end road. With all of the courage in me, I truly believe that I too, can be a rose that grew the cracks of concrete.
