Veterinary Technology Adimissions Essay

My name is Kawasaki and I was recently laid off from my professional job. I graduated from the Blake University in the Spring of 2004 after spending a long six years in college, changing my major from Psychology to Art Therapy, and then finally to Fashion Design. Somewhere in between my first day of college and my graduation day is where I lost sight of what I really wanted to do in life. I first wanted to major in Psychology because I always wanted to help people, but after taking one psych class I decided that the major was not for me. I then had an idea to combine my creative side and my need to help people, so I decided I was going to major in Art Therapy only to be told that the major was no longer offered at the University. My last option was to stick with my creative side and go into Fashion Design, which is what I decided to do. I thought that the major sounded glamourous and exciting and I couldn’t wait to get my first job after graduation. Two years later I landed my first job as the Color and CAD intern at Lane Bryant, and a year later I was promoted to an Assistant Product Manager. Now after only three weeks of being laid off I have had the time to think about what my next step will be.

I love animals. I think I may love animals more than humans if that is believable. Animals are so innocent, and loving and helpless all at the same time. Whenever I see someone walking their dog down the street, or a cat looking out of a window in a house I can’t help but to smile. This is why I know I want to be a veterinary technician. My nurturing side was tossed away when I started studying Fashion Design. I have always wanted to help people, and now I know that I want to help people through helping their pets. I want to have a ful filling job that is very rewarding, and I believe that this is the job for me.

I have always been around animals for as long as I can remember. When I was eight years old my parents took me to get my very first puppy, and by the age of 21 I had my very own dog. Owning a pet takes a lot of responsibility and patience which I feel are qualities that I have. I love my pets and I love caring for them. I feel that these life experiences show my interest and love for animals and my passion to want to help them. I am a very passionate, dedicated, honest, caring and loyal person who wants to work with animals and I would love the opportunity to go back to school and graduate with a degree that I truly believe in. I hope that you will please consider me.
