If you try to sell other products, franchisor may close your store. Also, you cannot change the logo or the name of the store. Those are very strict rules. Think about the franchise stores that you see every day. Have you ever seen a franchise store of a well known company with a different logo or selling different products? For instance, does any franchise store of Mc Donald’s sell kebab? Of course, not. If you want to run a franchise company, you have to obey the rules of the franchiser. It is very profitable to run a UPS store, however I think we ought to find something which is more suitable for you.

My dear friend, I know that you are very creative and you like to work alone. That is why I think you need to work as a sole trader. If you start your new business as a sole trader you will be the only boss of yourselves. So, no one will interrupt you and you will be able to make quick decisions. You will decide how to work your business, opening hours and closing hours will be flexible. You won’t have to deal with the complicated paper work and all of the income will be yours. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Now it is your term to decide what business you want to run. Choose the business that you both like and know well. By the way, don’t forget that long working hours maybe necessary and there is no limited liability; all of the depts. will be yours. See you.

QUESTION 2: Dear boss,

I just read what you have written and I have thought about the solutions to make the disco better. I think there is nothing to be pessimistic. Everything will be better. I agree with your ideas about the employees. They act like crazy and disturb the customers. I think the first solution is to change the employees. Experienced women workers would be much better. They would clean the disco, serve drinks to customers and would not create problems like the men do like consuming the drinks, taking their shirts off and flirting with the customers. They also would attract more people with their beauty which make us earning more. Furthermore since we fire the old ones, there won’t be any extra expenses and I think finding beautiful women workers won’t require much time. There are many people who look for jobs. You may start to fire the employees. Girls will be ready within one and a half month period.

I also read that we have some problems with the thefts. As far as I remember there are body guards in the disco, if they seem not working good, we may replace some of them with new ones. However, putting security cameras instead some of the body guards who don’t work efficiently would be much better. By doing that, we will both control the workers, ( to see if they work or steal something) and hold the security of the place with the cameras and remaining skilled body guards. Cameras also will help us to reduce the expenses. We will have to pay some money to buy the cameras at the beginning, nevertheless later on we won’t be have to pay some of the salaries, since there will be less security guards. I think within two months we can buy those cameras and change our security system.

Other problems are the old fashioned place and the unskilled band that John has been hiring for us. To make our place more fashionable, we have to make a good and deep research. We need to understand what people want to see and what makes them have fun. To do that I want you to give me three months to make surveys, see the other discos which people find attractive and find a designer who is professional in making designs. I think five months later our disco will be the most attractive disco in this place.

QUESTION 4: Mr. President’s Speech – Financial Crisis

Mr. President makes a speech about the financial crisis that will affect the economy of the country and lives of the people. He proposes to convince the people about the requirement of what he is planning to do. His actual aim is to nationalize the bad apples, the companies that seem to go bankrupt. Firstly, he has to convince people about the seriousness of the situation. Some big companies already have gone to bankrupt. If the government does not take precautions, more bad apples will appear and the range and effect of the crisis will be much more. So, what he needs to do is to specify the big companies which are in danger of bankrupt and nationalize them until the effects of the crisis disappear. At his speech, the president should tell the people what would happen if the government does not nationalize the companies which are in danger. The rate of unemployment will be much more, since those companies supply employment to a lot of people. Also, the chain of bankrupt companies will get longer and big part of the economy that consists of those big companies would go into a bigger crisis. If such a big crisis occurs, the economy will never be good as the old days, since the bankrupt chain will be so long.

Then, the president should state that only the bad apples will be nationalized and controlled by the government until the end of the crisis. On the other hand, he should state that some of the privatized companies will stay as privatized, since they are not in danger and work more efficiently as private companies. Still the government will check their economical condition and they might be nationalized in case of appearance of bankrupt. He also needs to tell the difference of what he is doing and socialism. In socialism, the government not only controls but also owns the companies. However, in this situation only some companies will ne nationalized for the benefit of the states’ economy and then they will be privatized again. By stating that the companies will be privatized again, the president will be sure that he still sounds like a capitalist.

QUESTION 5: Mr. (rich dude)

Hello sir, I need to talk to you. I and my friend work on a new computer program which supports the computer against the viruses. It is not ready still, but my friend constantly works on it and it will be ready within a week. We had some chances to test it, even though it is not completely ready. I can say that it will be a very efficient program against the viruses. After the programming step is passed, we will start copying and selling it. Before doing that we want to create a company which deals with the selling and copying work. We want also you to be in this company. If you accept our request to join us, after paying the money for copying and advertisements, you will have the 33 percent of the shares. In the beginning, our company will be a partnership. Me, my friend, and you as the most shares’ holder will run the company together. We will share the work. For instance, I will deal with the selling, you will deal with the copying and advertisement and my friends will work on programming. Or also if you want you can be a sleeping partner who only contributes money and earns according to his share. That is also another option. However, if you choose this option your income will be normally less than the first option. We will discuss every issue and will choose the best decisions for the company. There will be a life assurance policy of all of the big share holders for in case of a death situation. After we sell the program and get well known, we might change the company a little and make it a private limited company which would supply us the advantage of having limited liability and easiness to obtain loan of money to expand. I have read your letter. Even though it is very hard to understand what you are saying, I got what you try to say. I examined all kind of companies that we can run. I think founding a partnership is the best type of business for us. We will run the company together with our equal shares. We will discuss every issue and will choose the best decisions. You will be responsible of creating and copying program and I will deal with the selling and money parts. Of course, we will share the incomes, too, as we share the work. By the way, I have also talked to the rich dude. Hopefully, he will be ready to work with us as another share holder. I recommend him 33 percent of the shares. However, don’t worry; still we will be the boss of the company. He will not put his nose into our business. He will only pay the money we need and will be a sleeping partner.
