Styles of Management

Management styles: is the manner and or approach of providing direction, implementing plans and motivating people.

Autocratic Management: is a manager who likes to have control and authority has a high regard for production and efficiency and there is a low concern for employees.

Consultative Management: a manger who listens to the opinion of the team members before making a decision.

Laissez-Faire Management: when management has little control over their group, leaving them to sort out their roles and tackle their work

Persuasive Management: a manager who users their ability to interoperate a situation, peoples action and dialogue. Management makes decisions and they try to convince the employees that what they have decided is in their best interest.

Participative or democratic management: where management shares the decision making with the group members, but ultimately the leader makes the decision.

Situational or Contingency Management: When a manager uses a management style according to the situation.

Effective management: occurs when a manager is compliment in skill which fulfills the management role.

Skills and abilities of management: Need to produce an outcome that meets or exceeds accepting ethical standard. Skills can include:

  • creative thinking
  • visionary skills
  • communication skills
  • team building
  • decision making
  • problem solving
  • technical skills
