Sarah Vowell

Sarah Vowell’s essay is a simple essay that details the differences between a daughter and a father. The way Vowell described her life was with such detail, that it made me feel as if I was there. It really expressed the differences between her and her father, giving plenty of examples to understand the ways they differed. The part I loved most about the way Vowell expressed how her and her father were different was the republican and democrat posters in the windows, and that her house almost looked like the Civil War battleground. I think that her expressing there differences in that way really made the point across on how different they really are. My favorite part though is when Vowell finally went with her dad do shoot the cannon and she then realized that they had some similarity, and that was that they were both “smart-alecky loners with goofy projects and weird equipment.” In this essay Vowell really got her point across in expressing there differences and coming to realization that her and her father have a similarity, it kind of showed her maturing in way. This essay was a really good essay and Vowell did an excellent job of expressing her childhood differences with her dad.
