Tomorrow, When The War Began

Courage takes a certain kind of strength to emerge. Something that many people will never need to draw upon. It enables you to get on with things in a dangerous or scary situation with or without fear. Sure you might think that jumping out of a plane or off a cliff might be gutsy but there is a calculated risk involved that is relatively well thought out and planned. One person I believe Is courageous is James Hird, he has been hurt many times but just keeps on coming back to playing the game at a professional level.

In the book Tomorrow When the War Began many characters show courage in a sort of super human way. Doing stuff that these fictional people would never comprehend or have to before. Ellie surprises herself many times in the book managing to call upon a certain type of courage that she has neither needed nor been able to comprehend before. Homer, Lee Robyn, Fi and Kevin have also been able to find the undeniable bravery that has also struck

Ellie when in a disastrous situation trying to gather information on the situation at the show grounds is spotted by foreign army officials and is chased through the streets. Her group decides to head of the road into somebody’s backyard. Unfortunately for them they have no way of escape. With a bit of quick thinking Ellie formulates a plan to blow up a ride on lawn mower allowing some time to escape. All goes well with their plan and they escape. Although Ellie now feels accountable for the death of at least three people. I believe Ellie showed courage in the face of adversity when this happened.

Homer has shown that he is a natural leader in the book although is he capable of courage? Yes I believe he is he has a strong mind and can think things through he shows courage in a way many don’t and sticks to plans that may be dangerous but very rewarding to the group.

Robyn, Fi and Kevin have all gone outside their comfort zone pushing their limits in their own ways. Robyn was always was afraid of blood and needles until she is forced to look after lee. In doing this she finds a new interest and is very enthusiastic about this type of profession. Fiona has always been a quiet well spoken stereotypical rich girl never been pushed outside her limits and kept inside the norm. This war has shown her that she is a much stronger person that she thought she was. Kevin seems like big wus until the end where he shows an enormous amount of courage nominating himself to take the journey into town to drop off the dying Corrie at the local hospital.

All these characters have shown a certain type of courage in a situation that was forced on them. The way people show courage differs in many different ways and it is widely regarded as a quality that heroes may possess But have a little look around town and you will find many people that are courageous in the community organ donors to the local war veteran all these people show courage.
