Writing is a different way of communicating between people and also one of the primary ways of exchanging and discussing ideas. There are different ways to present writing, one of which is to write for the pleasure of writing itself, and the other is to focus on a particular audience for whom the end product is the target. Several reasons are also introduced for the writers, especially when it comes to the outcomes and the purpose of the products themselves. Should these writings inform? Should they convince? Exalt? Describe? Or simply entertain the public?
With any kind of writing, some basics have to be assessed and followed. Obviously, anyone who knows their letters can write, but it is also the matter of managing to convince someone to know your works, and also to ensure that the idea that the writer is trying to convey can be understood precisely based on the information that are being given. One of the most basic point is now then to idealize a target audience that the writer is trying to talk to. What are their interests? What should they know? What are their backgrounds? Would the questions and answers being used for this essay or paper be helpful for them? Will it appeal to them, especially with the style of presenting the issues and the information? These ideas have to be considered in order to ensure that the writing quality continues to address the needs of the readers and not that of the writers. Addressing the limitations of the readers as well as their needs can be helpful when deciding on the style in which the paper is written, as well as the direction of the paper when it comes to the ideas that are to be presented.
Moreover, there is also the question on the ethical duty of the writer. This is not necessarily included in many tutorials on writing—indeed, it may hardly have been discussed at all in the previous papers—yet it should be in the back of every writer’s mind when it comes to formulating their own researches or even deciding to publish. Etiquette when it comes to words can be questionable, especially as there is also the need to question the freedom of speech. This is not the time to discuss this, but it must be mentioned as a part of the decisions that the writers are taking if they are to convince people. There are several ways to present an information: it can be through flattery or through insults, and it can be through giving of information or through mystical defiance. The author has to remember that it is within their power to manipulate these information to be presented for the readers, and it is also within their power to reveal them. It is up to the readers, then, to analyze and decide whether these information are the particulars they are looking for and therefore apply to their own beliefs, sets of standards, and thus eventually leading to accepting them.
In writing a persuasive paper, all these have to be present. While there is still the basic concept of putting in the ideas on the structure of the essay as well as the proper grammar, spelling, and even the structure of the words themselves, the details of the essay have to be considered. As a writer, that person should be concerned and aware of the target audience and thus correctly address the needs of the readers to gain understanding. These questions should be present foremost in the writer’s mind, and thus rightly guiding them in the writing of the essay. The wordings, for example, can be done in such a way that acknowledges the capabilities and the understanding levels of the readers, as it may also appeal to their age or even their backgrounds. This conscious effort helps the writer in gaining more audiences and also addressing the needs of the readers when it comes to gathering more information.
There are several steps that can be taken when writing a persuasive essay. Other writers may have their own set of ideas, but basically they are also the same. It does not necessarily have to follow a chronological order, yet it should also be remembered that some of them may considered to be the premise of other actions. Humans, even writers, can be very disorganized people, and while that in itself does not mean a bad thing, it, however, can hinder the thought process that the writer can use in an effort to arrange these, and therefore also losing the precious information that can help with the writing of the essay. In this paper, some of the common steps will be discussed while some will also be added in a passing fancy. It has to be remembered, however, that the writer’s style can be unique and informative, but the one thing that they need tio develop as well as the skill to ensure that their readers are actually reading and thinking of the information that they have partaken.
Deciding on the Topic
Communication does not start without a particular topic, no matter how dull or even how far-fetched an idea is. These can be discussed among people no matter how old or even with their varied backgrounds. It ensures that there is the reaction between people as well as the exchange of ideas that they can continue to partake in. People can use several mediums when it comes to communicating, as it has become well-known. Writing is one of the oldest ways to convince people to consider a particular idea, or even to grab the attention of people. As said, written outputs do not necessarily has to have a reason of informing, rather it can also be based on the exchange of information as well as the purpose of entertaining.
For essays that try to persuade, there are several topics that can be done. There are general arguments that can be assessed and the writer can either focus on these arguments, or formulate new ones. There are, again, several techniques for finding these arguments, one of which is to take the previously gathered information and presenting them (see section: Support).
Logic also plays an important part for the direction of the essay, especially when it comes to the perspective that the writer takes. It can be through macro or micro analysis. These perspectives can be done on the idea of the person, on how they address the problems. One of the main questions is how these can be viewed and how the readers will avail of the information, especially on the arguments that can be done. Deduction and inclusive ideas are part of the ways that the problem can be considered, especially with the ways that they can affect other factors. By deciding on the topic, the author is thus stating the limitations and the borderlines when it comes to the information that are to be discussed. While consistency is one of the most important ideas that should be part of the writing, there is also the question on how the author will be able to handle the limitations of these topics, as well as state them in a particular way that will not only entice the reader to continue reader—and not only because of need, but also because of genuine curiosity—but will also grab their imagination in an effort to consider the particularities that the author is asking them to reflect on.
The Formulation of Arguments
By presenting the information, there are the supported data that can be gathered from various places. In convincing a person, there is the topic and the outright statement of the idea and the possible factors that have led to these. While the topics can be considered for their different perspectives and the consideration for the particular subject matter itself, arguments on the other hand give the author the chance to go to a particular side and present the possible reasons for their beliefs.
Formulating an argument can be hard, and thus can only be done if the authors themselves have genuine knowledge on the information. It has to be admitted, that even authors can fib their way through a paper, and that the information can be based on imagination only—as well as through discreet withholding information. As was discussed in the previous sections, there is also the need to consider the etiquette that the writer has, especially when it comes to dealing with the readers. That is to say, it does not necessarily have to include every single detail in an effort to support a particular argument, yet it may also be helpful to consider each and every positive and, indeed, also negative information to know how these can affect the line of thinking of the readers and therefore also affect the theories and the arguments that the writer can produce.
One of the ways that these can be helpful is through providing support information and data. By finding other sources or through analysis of previous information and putting them together, a writer may b able to present these data for them in order to ensure that they can help. These can be presented through very different manners, on of which is through the equation method in which one can derive another factor due to a commonality or even through analysis of their differences. These can also be done through particular examples in an effort to give them a more solid direction and background. Examples are advantageous for the writer as it gives them a chance to work on a method that will simplify an argument, and also helpful for the readers as they manage the connection in their minds as they can work on the analogies.
Proofs can be found through observation and, indeed, there is also the need for the author to decide on the method of connecting these information. The ways that the author puts these all together can either be the downfall of the argument, but may also help with the building. Moreover, as an author, there is also the need to look through various loopholes and explain each concept in a clear and precise way. The author can be cautious on their explanations, but at the same time make sure that the readers are not overburdened with too much information that will not be processed. It takes skill and time to perfect such talent, and it has to be admitted that not even a lot of writers today have such a skill. These mistakes, loopholes, as well as some weak analogies and examples can thus be in the line of the attack of critics. This is one other aspect that the authors have to remember, as well as deal with—not only occasionally but almost always everyday.
Handling Critiques, Analysis and Attacks
Although it should always be remembered that when it comes to writing and argument, etiquette should always be minded, there is also the chance that other people will not follow the same rules as the authors do. This puts forth many awkward moments, not to mention problems when it comes to talking and providing valid points. Although greatly unacknowledged, one of the things that almost always hinders a particular idea or even for the growth of an idea is pride.
Worst of all, it does not have to be the problem of the critic themselves, but also the author. In many cases, it is a particular problem with both parties, and therefore destroying the chance for more particularities on the ideas. It can be argued that proofs and arguments can be helpful for the growth of an idea, especially in stressing towards a particular direction, especially when paradigms shift and also begin to include new thoughts, these does not necessarily mean that the critics are attacking the persona of the author. It is one of the hardest rules to remember, for both the critic and the author. One is that the author should not attack the authors themselves, but the work at hand. At the same time, attacking by means of shredding it apart and not leaving a constructive criticism is disadvantageous, and not only risks the possible clashes on the feelings of the author, but also brings about the disadvantage of letting no information develop from such in the effort to bring about more personalized retaliations. In the end, both lose.
At the same time, when it comes to analyzing a particular work, there is also the need to be honest. As was always discussed in the previous sections, etiquette is important for both the author and the critic themselves. By letting discussions flourish, the critic can thus help the author in finding ways for the theory and the arguments to grow, and also address the ways that these will not be overlooked in the future. At the same time, it can also mend or break the theory itself, with the arguments being pitched on a particular note. Pros and cons are always separated, especially in an argument, but it has to be remembered that while these can eventually help with the growth of the theory itself.
And as such, there is also the need to focus on the revising and editing of the information. The author can decide for themselves if such attacks and critics can help with the improvement of their arguments, or they can also discard such information. However, here it must be stressed that the idea of beta-reading, revising, and editing is one that is essential for the outcome of the information and therefore giving rise towards the ideas that they can continue from then on. Moreover, by doing so, he author is given the chance to let other people give their own perspectives and point out possible inconsistencies that can be addressed harshly in the future, and all well ahead of time, therefore saving them from particular problems on criticizing and handling such comments.
Skills to Weave Words
With the dos and don’ts of the persuasive essay writing, another almost ignored particularity is the idea of the writing style itself. Although the purpose of many persuasive essays are not to entertain, but to inform, it is thus one of the most considered wasteful effort as these are thought to be not contributive to the overall impact to the readers.
This is where the authors are wrong.
While informing, it must again be stressed that the author is writing for a particular audience. While many of the audience members can immediately appreciate the facts, there is also the need to ensure that the sentences are concise and, in effect, grabbing. Writing styles can vary, and it is up to the author’s discretion on which method they would use to convince the people. It can be up to their own imagination, or particularly on their own method to shock the people. It not only shows that the author can skillfully manage their information, but also manage to capture a particular audience that would otherwise not have looked at the questions and the possible arguments twice. By capturing the readers, the writer is showing the skill of arguing, but also of convincing. This seems highly implausible when put into writing, especially as convincing and capturing usually pertains to the spoken words, yet it can be done. If the author is greatly convinced of their own ideas, then they will be able to show it through their writing and present it in accordance.
One of the ways that the authors can do this is to ensure that they have all the information at hand, and most importantly, learn to appreciate words. These can take some time, not to mention a lot of practice, some hit-and-misses, and also several problems regarding criticizing and accepting comments, yet it is one of the most rewarding feeling for the author to manage to capture a whole set of new audience for which the essay was not intended to. Writing skills takes some time to develop, but it has continued to be one of the most popular methods for ensuring that information is being passed and delivered to another particular audience, enticing them to think and consider particular arguments, to accept or reject them. It is up to the author to decide on the resort that they choose to captivate their readers, let them see their views, manage to show the validity of their points, and to accept them as part of their ideas, or to reject them entirely.
