Introduction
Poverty and unequal treatment for women are the common problem that most of women are facing. Actually, the entire society is facing this same scheme that might rotten the societal framework. In every country, the problem within the society and the position of women as well as their role is under the critical eyes of the individuals who are focused in development. Many endeavors had been created to satisfy the aim of every country to improve their status in the globally competing world.
Background and Problem Statement
According to the record, there is one out of every six persons in Delhi who lives in a slum or squatter settlement. That was back in 1998, and that estimation might be increased after 12 years. Still, the problem is really worrisome because it still rests, almost hidden and unknown, in the public eye because of the primary focus of the government towards improvement. Although there is an impressive improvement in the area of health care by providing quality health facilities, they are far from minimizing the signs of poverty in the country (Mehta, 1998). Many organizations eventually describe the current action of the government to be insensitive to the problems that may arise from the poverty and deprivation or lack of decent and safe housing. Above all, the women and their security are placed into the midst of danger, which might be the most important issue in Delhi for over the years.
Research Aims and Objectives
The main aim of the study is to provide the information regarding to the approach of the government in terms of the security mechanisms of women particularly in the slums of Delhi. To cast away the problems with the poverty, there should be a good set of policies that might be very useful in the entire society. In fact, it is also indeed, important for the government to secure its citizens without any signs of discrimination. To continuously support the idea of the study, there are three objectives that are relatively prepared and be stay in focus about the major problem of women in slum areas in Delhi. First is to recognize the existing policies, regulations, or activities that might resolve the problem around the women’s security in slum areas. Second is to understand the various perceptions and impacts of the policies such as detailing their negative and positive results from its implementation in the region. And lastly, is to focus on how to strengthen the existing protocol to satisfy the aim of the study.
Literature Review
Delhi is one of the subject communities in India that has evolved through the community-based participation of every sector and various non-government organizations. The health care can be the center of all the larger issues in terms of community development (Mehta, 1998). On the flip side of other organizational approach, the women empowerment is high lightened. It can start through giving the right of women to have their voice and exercise their rights in the society. One of the most intriguing issues in the society nestled in Delhi is the right to have access on lands. With the idea of providing women with their own land is a good indication that there is a hope in eliminating the poverty and discrimination in the society (D’Cruz and Bharat, 2001). It can be also a good start in building the capacities of the women as well as their securities. Shelter is an essential in every human aspect to live a life more decently. Approximately, the housing issues and fighting on the tenure rights is already a growing issue in Delhi thus, transforming the illegal settlers into slums or squatter areas. The women in the urban slums are invited to work towards the improvement in Delhi by giving them their right to own a land and a house; and this aspiration can be only realized once there is an effective leadership and communication skills for negotiation. In due time, the cooperation of the government, its sectors and other organizations will successfully allow the women to participate through their own initiatives (Delhi Government, 2009).
Methodology
The suggested methodology in the study is the use of the comparative case studies. The current study has an advantage to link the previous cases to the existing and current situation of the particular subject. Through the case studies, the current paper can investigate the literature gaps and understand the complexities of policies and regulations that might be involved in the study. Case studies also deliver the empirical approach by providing the resolutions on what does the previous authors thinks and suited in the case presented to them. Their essential contributions are important in every aspect of the research most especially on focusing on how to strengthen the approach of the government towards their policies, in poverty, housing, and security for women.
