Human Resources
Since the late 1950’s GE has had its focus on management because of its departmentalization of its companies. So, it developed its own management development institution. Due to the rapid change in the business world, former CEO John Welch developed a new leadership center to adapt. The following training was included on-line training programs, which minimized on cost for the company.
There were also benefits of this training change which brought global consistency to all its businesses. GE is renowned for the ability to maneuver its management inside the company without girth and produce positive results, because of its management training. One way this was able to be achieved is that GE had an institutional training system that allowed employees the opportunity to rotate assignments in the company. Employees were able to get tremendous exposure across the it’s varied business segments and divisions and gave them unmatched practical exposure to sharpen their managerial capabilities. These training programs have allowed GE the versatility it needs to enhance quality leadership across its organization resulting in its continued success.
“Great people build great companies. Training development is not a slogan at GE, it is a way of life.”
-Jack Welch Chief Executive Officer (1981-2001), General Electric Co. 2005
