Introduction
The Ssese Islands is consisted of 84 islands in the section of the Lake Victoria. For a long time, the islands are only visited by the local people and capers because of the lack of tourist facilities. But through the aim of the country for tourism destination development, the camps have been opened through the local operators. The islands became an ideal nest for the tourist for there are forests and swamps which became the natural habitats for the birds and for the fishes as well. In addition, the islands are rich in wildlife that includes the hippos, crocodile, waterbuck, and monkeys. Through the water transport, the tourists can experience the trip.
Research Objectives
The study recognized the importance of water transport in the tourism therefore; the study is centered in main objective. To help the tourism development in Uganda and it can be only possible with the focus of three facets. First is in establishing the direct effects such as wages in earnings for the people that contributes in the tourism. Second is to focus on the indirect effects of tourism that includes the value chain in terms of food, beverages, construction that evidently contribute in the ongoing development of the entire country. And third is focusing on the dynamic effects such as livelihood strategies for the communities that are subject for tourism.
Research Questions
Tourism, as an essential factor in building the competency and one of the strong factors that fosters the continuous development on the economy.
1. What are the actions of the local or tourism officers in fostering the development in tourism?
2. What role did the water transport plays in the tourism destination development in Uganda?
3. What are the effects of the tourism destination development in the community?
Literature Review
The tourism in the country is under the continuous development but through the principal attractions of the superabundance of the animals and diversity of scenery. In Uganda, the tourism was the third foreign exchange after he traditional crops, cotton, and coffee production. Uganda positioned their focus on the new markets and tourists attractions that revolves around the tourism, trade and industry. The tourism resources in Uganda wherein a variety of landscape and ecosystems, climates and cultures (Tourism Profile, 2004). Through the modern commercial influences the responsibility of the government in the initiation of the development and promotion of the various tourists’ attractions. There are challenges that available in the literature that gave rise to the debates in the total development of the tourism. The human settlement, infrastructure, landscape, such as water, mountain, forests, and others are part of the aims for development that are in high transaction costs, geographical conditions, and political affairs. The tourism in development can minimize the poverty and can strengthen the economic opportunity, agricultural, and cultural areas of tourism (Holland, Burian, and Dixey, 2003).
Methodology
The applied methodology is the comparative case study method in which allows the study to examine the significant information about the tourism in Uganda and in Ssese Islands. Through the comparative case study the past literatures are reviewed, assessed, and compared that creates an in-depth analysis for the current study.
Conclusion
The tourism in Uganda serves as the motor in growth for the economy. The tourism enables the agriculture to enter in the economic opportunities that are competitive in the globalized markets. The tourism is the industry that considered as a tool for the regeneration to support the aims in economic progress.
