Introduction
Most of the organizations and other innovative developers are confidence enough to promote the use of the technologies in their nature of business. Definitely, the technologies can deliver the work in a more efficient way that the human intervention. Through the developing world due to the globalization and international competition, the means of the ordinary function within the organization changes. Different strategies and various combinations are emerging in the processes of the organization to deliver the appropriate service and products.
Background and Problem Statement
Transportation is an activity that was founded upon a three foundations. First is the transportation equipment such as automobiles, trains, pipelines, ships, airplanes, and others. Second is the infrastructure like the ports, road, networks, airports, rail lines and stations, and other line for the transportation passage. Lastly is the logistics system that involves the activities of processing the documents, schedules, information systems, and others (Abba, 2003). In the collaboration of the information technology in the industrial practices, there will be a specific role that the information technology should play.
Research Objectives
The first objective of the study is to understand the different roles or specific role that the information may play in the areas of aviation such in transportation and logistics. The second objective of the study is the determination to promote the advantages and benefits that any organization may realize in the application of different technological features in their processes or in their entire processes.
Research Questions
The study understands the critical demand for the information technologies and its complex roles within an organization. Therefore, preparing the questions that will serve as the guideline of the study is important in meeting the objectives at the end of the study became necessary.
1. What are the common challenges that the operators recognized in their current procedures and/or processes?
2. What are the common functions in transportation and logistics that can be improved in the application of the information technology?
3. What are the perceived constraints that present in the activities in the application of the information technologies?
Literature Review
Transportation is the simple means of movement - either by people or the goods- from one place to another. The technological and technical activities in the modern world promote the needs in efficiency in transportation. Most of the inventors and the collaborative work of the technologies created a valuable process that lies in the concept of the organization regarding their economic status and progress (Abba, 2003). On the other hand, logistics is where the process of planning, implementing, and controlling takes place. In transportation and other industry, the logistics paid much of the attention for it is the process wherein the point of meeting the consumer’s requirements is possible. The aim of the organizations to implement a kind of logistics that is cost-effective and efficient is admirable through the process collaboration with the information technology or IT (Lewis and Talalayevsky, 1997). The design of the logistics is clearly involved the management which is incorporated in the transportation system. The innovative ways of the firms in integrating the logistics system through the combination of the transportation and distribution systems can be appropriate in the global and competitive environment. Commonly, information technology is being applied in the areas where there is a great need for speed. And the organizations adopt several innovative technologies to support their aim in improving the particular systems (Abba, 2003). IT has fueled the revolution of the logistics and transportation as far as linking the shipper and customer through the flows of information. With the aid of IT, there will be assurance in the transportation and there is a significant reduction on the postponed schedules, delayed schedules and elimination of unnecessary expenses and in return can promote the additional savings (Chatterjee and Tsai, 2002; Esper and Williams, 2003).
Methodology
The proposed method in the study is the use of the secondary information. The information may come from the various sources such as the case studies, reports of the other aviation organization, or different related source wherein proposed and applied the information technology in their nature of business. Through the proposed method, the current study can identify the current progress of the different IT systems which is very advantageous for the study.
Conclusion
Providing the timely information is one of the requirements that the aviation and other organization should provide in satisfying their customers. Every organization should believe in the statement that suggests the particular idea “if there is no movement, no progress”. This means that the challenge lies in the hands of the organizational leaders to create any actions if they truly aim for the improvement and progress in their industry.
