Character Essay

The person I am doing my essay on in Atticus Finch. Atticus is one of the main characters in the Book To Kill a Mocking Bird.

To Kill a Mocking Bird was written my Harper Lee and is set in a small town in the south during the depression. The book has two stories. One is the trial of a black man accused of rape and the other is Atticus’s children, Jem and Scout’s, fascination with a scary neighbor Boo Radley.

Atticus is a lawyer. He is nice to everyone. Atticus is even nice to poor people like the Radleys who live next door and to black people. Atticus is the lawyer defending Tom Robinson. Tom is a poor black man that has been accused of the rape of Mayelle Ewell. Atticus likes to listen to the radio and throw the football with his son. He also likes to read with his Daughter.

The reason I chose Atticus is because he is nice and treats all people the same. During the depression there was a lot of racism and Atticus does not like it. Atticus loves his kids and is always teaching his kids not to be racist or to judge people.

After the trial, Bob Ewell, the father of the raped women attacks Jem and Scout as they are walking home. Boo Radley saves them. Atticus think there should be an investigation of the killing of Bob Ewell. Sheriff Heck Tate says no. Sheriff Tate does not want Boo Radley to have to testify. During the attack Jem is hurt. Boo carries him home. At home Scout meets Boo and walks him home holding his hand.
