The Study of Teachers Use of Vocabulary Teaching Strategies

Introduction

One of the basic learning strategies that the home and school should teach among the children is the proper use of the vocabulary words. It is a great advantage for the children if they incorporate their everyday language with the vocabularies. In addition, most of the children are shy in their first day in school. And this situation is usually faced by the students who moved with their families in another country and they have to adjust not only in the culture but also in their accent and diction.

Background of the Study and Problem Statement

Part of the common problem in the education is the use of the students on vocabulary such as reading, speaking, writing, and listening. All of those skills are part of the vocabulary that a student should learn and enhance. Many educators believe that the quality education can only be achieved if the students can easily comprehend the different teaching strategies. With the aid of the teachers, the quality education is not impossible to achieve.

Research Objectives

The first objective of the study is to promote the use of the vocabulary teaching strategies in the schools. The second objective is to establish the great impacts or effects in using the vocabulary strategies in teaching of the students.

Research Questions

The study suggests the three essential questions that can be use for the completion of the proposal. The questions are connected to each other and all are aiming to meet the objectives of the study.

1. What are the actions of the administrators or educators in their aim to provide quality education?

2. What are the appropriate strategies where the use of vocabulary can be effective?

3. What are the common trends that students usually face in the vocabulary teaching strategies?

Literature Review

The obligation of the educational institution is to provide the quality education among their students. And because of their aim, there are different interventions are created. Most of the popular curricular innovation is the incorporation of the technology within the classrooms. The computers are used to assist the learning not just to improve their skills but also to guide the students to different challenges in the globalization. In addition, the support on training and development for the teachers is another strategy to accommodate the teaching strategies and to provide the quality education (Elliot, Foster, and Stinson, 2003). Through the knowledge of words or through the vocabulary plays a crucial part most especially in the beginners. The approach in teaching is essential to enhance and develop the strong vocabulary among the students. The students should focus on the instruction from the teachers. A strong vocabulary can be satisfied in two ways - through the natural acquisition and the other is formal instruction. The natural acquisition is the most comfortable way of learning that usually occurs with friends while inside the classroom or doing different activities. On the other hand, the formal instruction is the intentional method of teaching the vocabulary through the use of the textbooks and lectures. This two vocabulary methods, when combined, can ensure and contribute to the success of the student in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension (Pikulski and Templeton, 2004; DWW, 2007).

Methodology

The applied method in the study is the use of single case study. Since the vocabulary strategies are already implemented in foreign countries, therefore, the study assumed that the application of the same strategy in the less developed and developing countries will also be successful. The single case study allows the study the different views of the educators and the students towards the vocabulary teaching strategies.

Conclusion

The teacher should encourage the wide reading among the students and create a keen awareness of the students in the language and words. Vocabulary plays a crucial role in learning and teachers should support their use of words. The vocabulary instruction strategies suggest the different considerations in strengthening the skills of the students, where they can use in the future.
