The Death of Irwin Steve

The clip was the death of Irwin Steve, Australian crocodile hunter, famous for handling poisonous creatures. He was stung in chest by sting ray barb. Cathie Schnitzerling, Australia Channel 10 news director of channel was interviewed by a CNN reporter to get her reaction about the sad event.

i. Use of broadcast language in the story\report

The broadcast language used was clear. Like the previous clips, it can be easily understood. We can feel the sad emotion of the reporter and the interviewee because of their tone intonation.

ii. Inclusion and Effectiveness of Actuality Materials

The audience can have the idea about Irwin and the nature of his work because of the photo flashed in the screen. It was more dramatic if the interviewee was members of family of Irwin to really witness the drama on that scene.

iii. Clarity of Communication

Like the previous clips, communication flow was very clear.

iv. Value of Pictures and Sounds in Enhancing the Content

The over-exposure of the same photos of the subject can irritate the audience’s eyes. It was better if the photos flashed on the screen were not repeated.
