Throughout my life, my biggest non academic passion has been tennis. Tennis was the first sport that I got into, and since then the only that I wanted to pursue. During the later half of middle school I began to take tennis much more seriously, and started to play USTA regional tournaments. Looking ahead to the summer of 2007, ending my sophomore year in high school, I wanted to play tennis on a larger scale, and not limit myself to practicing at home and playing local tournaments.
Eligible by a minimum ranking, and with my passion for tennis and my hunger for new experiences, I signed up for an American team to play in 5 tournaments across Europe. In this tour I played tennis in Spain, France, Belgium, and Holland, gaining experience that went well beyond tennis. My teammates ranged from across the entire United States, and my opponents were from all over Europe, giving me an opening into different cultures and customs on and off the court.
Shortly after I returned home, I developed tendinitis in my right wrist from overuse, and had to put down my racquet for several months. I will never be able to take tennis as seriously as I did that summer, but I am very happy with my decision to take the opportunity of playing overseas, and extract life experiences which enlarged my horizons.
