South Africa’s “National Flower

This article about waste management made me think that Philippines is near to the same problem as in South Africa. The article South Africa’s “National Flower” is like a reminder and a warning that we must act before the problem comes to be. Plastic bags that are thin are very fragile, easily unusable and are a very mobile waste. This waste must be dealt accordingly to prevent much serious problems like sewer and stream clogging, suffocation of wildlife, and aesthetic effects.

The production of very thin plastic bags must be band to keep the bags reusable and prevent rapid increase in waste. The government must also require tax for plastic bags so that people will pay for the bags, therefore decreasing the use of plastic bags. People will think twice before throwing their plastic bags if they have paid for it. The use of cloth bags is also a good alternative because cloth bags are very reusable. People must patronize the use of much reusable bags. This will lead producers to produce much reusable plastic bags and eliminate the production of very thin and very mobile plastic bag waste. I believe that using alternatives will be an effective solution to this problem.
