Victimology

Victimology is the study of why certain people are victims of crime, and how lifestyles affect the chances that a certain person will fall victim to a crime. There are many different kind of crimes. There is murder, theft, rape, and hate crimes just to name a few. There are also some crimes that people do not always associate as a crime. For example making fun of the weird kid in class, or leaving someone out of a group because of the color of his or her skin. These are crimes that are not necessarily punishable by law, but involve victims of a crime. A crime is defined as any offense, serious wrongdoing or sin. In the play Dutchman, there are many victims. One of the victims is the character Lula, who is a victim of herself, and the knowledge of history.

In the second scene of Dutchman, it is Lula, Clay, and some riders of coach on a subway. Clay a black man and Lula a white female are sitting next to each other on the subway talking back and forth. It has been a rather calm conversation until Lula gets up and starts mocking Clay and his race. Clay finally has enough of the situation and grabs Lula to sit back in her seat. He follows this by a long monologue of yelling at Lula and her actions. The scene ends with Lula stabbing Clay to his death.
