Wireless Control Systems for Industrial Applications

Introduction

In the industry where the globalization is the main issue, the role of control systems industrial applications is very essential. Most of the business settings addressed the fundamental concerns about the wireless controls for the reason that it can give advantage in their nature of their business even in manufacturing facilities.

Background of the Study and Problem Statement

The applied system for industrial applications gives emphasis in the wireless communication, such as flexibility, straightforward installation, and low material and labor costs (Enocean, 2009). Despite from the benefits and advantage position of an organization in the control systems, still some industry leaders hesitate to invest in wireless solution.

Research Objectives

The study has two basic objectives which centers in the issue of the industrial wireless control systems. The first objective is to help the industrial leaders to clear their mind and cast away the uncertainties they feel in the application of wireless control system in their business setting. With that, the second objective will be achieved which regards on the idea in eliminating or lessening the threats or incapacities of the system. The second objective is considered another challenge in the world of innovation.

Research Questions

The research provided some basic questions that will serve as an engine in the completion of the study. These questions are created to satisfy the above objectives.

1. What is the idea behind the industrial application of the system?

2. What are strategies applied by the successful businesses in their adaptation of wireless system?

3. What are the other concerns and challenges that prevents the implementation of the system in the industry?

Literature Review

The hesitation of the business leaders in application of the wireless system came form the reliability and security issues of the control network infrastructure. Many industries successfully deployed the essential aspects of the wireless controls even in the very complex industrial-building environment to fully achieve the promised benefits of control system. In the trend of adopting new technologies and processes in the industry, the energy consumption is rapidly increasing. But through the applied strategies of the companies such as the opportunity in research and developing the existing strategies, the threat and challenges are avoided. In the exploration of the manufacturing processes, energy, and supply-chain solution, the worldwide market for wireless technology recognized its growth (Banks, 2001). Admittedly, the wireless network has many areas that are needed to be improved especially when it is applied in the industrial environments such as the radio-frequency performance. The quality performance of the system depends on choosing the operating frequency. Other than that there are many hindrances that prevent its effectiveness such as the radio interference, multipath wireless range, security, interoperability and maintenance (Enocean, 2009). Through the proper deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and report on the wireless control system of the business, the maintenance and other related problems can be predicted and given special attention such as in solution. The smooth administration of the system enhances the network security, and delivers the optimal wireless benefits. In addition, it can help the business to reduce its cost in some areas where there is business-ready wireless network (CISCO, 2010).

Methodology

The applied method of the study is the use of the interview and survey to the businesses that are now making their everyday process and transactions with the help of the wireless control system. The interview conducted on the people that handle most of the operation. Meanwhile the survey indicates the question determining the effectiveness of the system in their nature of work and their other concern about the system.

Conclusion

The application of the wireless control system in the industry is very much welcomes by the strong business because they view the advantages it can bring in their business. In contrast, the small business leaders think the other way upon the approach of the control system in different business settings. These leaders are afraid to take the risk, and people that are afraid in facing the challenges cannot experience the benefit that it will bring.
