How Bullying Effects on Travellers (Nomads) in Ireland?

Introduction

Bullying is popular in school, some people say that it is common most especially in the students that having the idea of differences. Bullying are sometimes misinterpreted as a way of another’s person to take an advantage or otherwise, the way of the bullied to stand and fight in the future. But the young people who experienced bullying have more chances to destroy their ability to enjoy and kill their self-confidence.

Background of the Study and Problem Statement

In the Irish society, bullying still exists especially to those the travellers without knowing the reasons why they are being bullied. In this scenario, there is a big impact or effects on the travellers such as how the way they live, their language, culture and customs, and so forth. The different behaviors of the people during their interaction are often turning into a sequence of bullying.

Research Objectives

The research is composed of the three objectives. The first is to understand the reason on why does the Irish society, in particular, use the idea of bullying to the Travelling society. Second, to evaluate the effects of such actions that can ultimately destroy the Travelling society. Third is to determine the greatest effect/s that may happen if the bullying did not stop and continue to affect the Travelling society.

Research Questions

The study managed to gather the essential questions that can serve as the engine of the paper. Through the use of the questions, the objectives can be achieved, especially learning the effects of bullying on the Travelling society.

1. What is bullying and why does it is still popular on the Irish society?

2. What are the things involved in their way of bullying that can hurt the Travellers?

3. What are the actions of the Travellers against the idea of bullying?

Literature Review

Bullying is an ongoing abuse of another person through physical or mental torture. Humiliation is the only feeling left for a person being bullied and it sometimes happens a long period of time (Moriar, 2006). In Ireland, they emphasized the idea of Fair Society, where the talents are valued and the society is structured to allow the development of the human potential (Rabbitte, 2007). But in the presence of the incidences of bullying for the Travellers, there are apparent cases that focus on its effect and the most popular are the suicides. There are two identified suicides that are in relation on bullying. First is the violence suicides in which the victim ended their life because of the violence they received from the other people. Second is the shamed suicide in which a person is motivated to kill themselves because of the shame they receive from the majority of the society (Walker, 2008).

Methodology

The applied method of the study is the review method in which it gives way to the paper to seek the relevant literature reviews that will fit to the main topic. The method is advisable since there is history that might be considered as part of the present situation. The literature review also comprises the culture and different behaviors of the Irish society and the Travelling society that might help in the progress of the study.

Conclusion

Bullying is not only happening on children but also on other parts of the society. The bullied person kept his feelings and loses his self-confidence. In the study of the Irish society and Travelling society, it is very alarming that the simple bullying is harmful as a disease because it can serve as a stigma on the travellers that affects their biological, psychological, sociological and environmental health and end their life through suicidal actions.
