Almost eighty percent of high school students have tried alcohol. Many people choose to use this substance for different reasons. Alcohol is a Depressant. It slows down thoughts to the brain and blocks messages from your body that your brain is trying to receive. (Dowshen, “Alcohol”) Many teens in high school choose to abuse the use of alcohol and its causes them to develop problems in the long run. Drinking alcohol often can develop into becoming an alcoholic, which is a brutally painful decease on your family and will eventually kill you. Alcohol is created when grain and fruits are fermented. It has many different forms such as a cleaner, an antiseptic or a sedative. So therefore why do teens choose to drink? There are many reasons for teen alcohol abuse but each person is different. They can be per-pressured, their own curiosity or they can use it to solve problems are the three main theories.
Why teens choose to use alcohol in the first place is a lot of the time peer pressure. Students want to fit in it’s a fact. They will do anything anytime, anyplace and anywhere to be cool and fit in. “Everyone is doing it,” so I will to is the attitude. So if you chose to follow your friends and be pressure into doing something you don’t want to it can lead to many things such as alcohol poisoning, it is exactly what it sounds like, the body has become poisoned by large amounts of alcohol. (Dowshen, “Alcohol”) it makes you very sick and peer pressure often leads a person to get sick like this. Peer pressure can also lead to body problems. (American Academy of Family Physicians. Drinking Facts). Body problems may include ruining organs and gaining weight, which is a disaster for most young girls. You make act stupid and ruin the chances of you making more friends and becoming popular. People who have overused alcohol may stagger, lose their coordination, and slur their speech. There are two different types of drinkers, someone very friendly and talkative or very aggressive and angry. (Dowshen, “Alcohol”) Both decisions could make you feel very angry. Not only is peer pressure an issue with teen drinking but curiosity plays its role as well.
Teens are naturally going to experiment with many things. Alcohol is usually the first thing someone will be interested in when entering high school. Teens with curiosity often try it earlier than others. There are many problems with being curios about alcohol. It has an age limit for a reason. Teens who drink are more likely to be sexually active and to have unsafe, unprotected sex. (Dowshen, “Alcohol”) This will lead to such things as pregnancy or STIs’, which is not a good thing for a teen to be going, threw at their age. If you’re too curious as well it may lead up to becoming an alcoholic. People who continue drinking heavily risk damaging their organs, such as the liver, heart, and brain. (Dowshen, “Alcohol”) Curiosity can also cause Cirrhosis of the liver is one of the most well known effects of alcohol abuse. Alcohol can also cause stomach ulcers that lead to internal bleeding. (American Academy of Family Physicians. Drinking Facts). Peer pressure and curiosity are just two causes to teen drinking; another one would be a problems solver.
Another common teen alcohol use is problem solver. Many teens believe that if you drink all your problems will go away. But it’s the same thing alcohol is a depressant which make you have and can create more problems. Problems such as Drinking can damage a student's ability to study well and get decent grades. (Dowshen, “Alcohol”) Many students also participate in a large number of activates which it can also lead to as well as affect sports performance (the coordination thing). (Dowshen, “Alcohol”) Another way to tell that you use alcohol as a problem solver is like “American Academy of Family Physicians” says when you feel stressed out and you drink alone and you also drink when it is important to stay sober. But seen alcohol is a depressant alcohol can only make things worse if your not doing good. It increases the likely hood that you will drink and Drive, which is a good rate to kill yourself. Suicide is also a big issue with alcohol. People feel that they can do anything when they’re drinking and try stupid or harmful things to the body. It also lead to poor decision making which can make a person feel the need to try other substance which is more illegal and could get you in a lot of trouble. Problem solving is a simple way for teens to choose to use alcohol.
Peer Pressure, Curiosity and Problem solving is three of the key ways to look at why teens drink. There is an age limit for a reason. Alcohol is simply one of the worse addicting drugs in the world. People use it as problem solvers and end up making their problems a whole lot worse or end up killing themselves. They may be curios and choose to do stupid things or harm their body in many ways. Teens will do anything anytime, anyplace and anywhere to be cool and fit in. “Everyone is doing it,” so I will to is the attitude, which causes problems in peer pressure. Peer pressure leads to people getting alcohol poisoning and such which are horrible for you body and you can potentially die. “To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.” –Matt Groening, The Simpsons.
