Identification of the Role of a Supervisor in School

Literature Review

Because of the growing problems and insights towards the needs of the students and the kind of services that should be delivered among the schools, the responses coming from the educators vary. Based on the current issues and situations faced by most of the schools, the activities that include the planning and improvement are laid as plan. Furthermore, because of the academic challenges, in both learning capability of the student and the capacity to pursue the studies, the problems are continuously arising. This is definitely beyond the skill of the educators to provide all the necessities for the students but still, there are ways to solve the constraints in learning. The supervision of the educators to provide the specific strategies can be effective to support the students in learning.

The services delivered to all the schools are the result of the collaborative process and effective communication of the educators. The collaboration of the educators can create a great understanding and responsibilities to guide the students. In addition, the communication of the educators is also an effective way to discuss the challenges in their proposed program. With the contribution of the educators, the challenges can be determine to formulate the improvement within the schools (Phillips, 2008).

Supervisor

In the educational settings, the teachers are considered as the guardians of the students, aside from their parents. The army of the teachers are also known as the collective title as the supervisors. The presence of the teachers in the school creates an impact in the school atmosphere. The system includes in the supervision of the teachers have the power to watch over the students in terms of their progress and behavior. The movement of the supervision is along with the mission of the teachers in serving the school and students. Within the schools, the role of the supervisor in education remains competitive because they aid the changes that exist even in the external environment of education. Having a supervisor within the facility is like ensuring that all the processes are managed according to the objectives. If the supervisors are effective in the organizations, then the schools can also use the same idea to draw the effectiveness within their settings (Rundle-Gardiner & Carr, 2005).

Apparently, there are two descriptions regarding the school supervisors, they may or may not take any part in the managerial structure of the school; but mostly, the supervisors are also teachers to maintain the relationship between the educators and the students. The effect of supervision is highly visible among the schools of today with the intention to provide the quality of service. However, the responsibilities of the educational supervisors are not clear to identify the specific answers in helping the students.

The title of supervisor can be viewed in various ways. In fact, the diversity of perceptions, lack of information, and absence of commitment are the greatest challenges that they should overcome. To be successful in the supervising, the individual must acknowledge both of his strengths and weaknesses and discover the other potentials. In the school operation, the supervisors’ acts with major functions – to demonstrate the techniques, offer suggestions, give orders, evaluate the performance (teachers and/or students) and monitor the good results.

Supervisor in Schools

The supervisors in the school systems is the kind of service that purpose allotted for teachers to improve the instruction, which the ultimate beneficiary are the students. Accordingly, to achieve this kind of characteristics among the supervisors, they should be well trained with the primary function that portrays the mixed role being the coordinator, consultant, group leader, and evaluator (Constantine & Gushue, 2003). It is an advantage for the supervisor if he/she manages to acquire the unique traits that will allow him/her to work harmoniously with a group. All of the knowledge and skills being performed by the supervisors can be manifested in effective services of the schools. The natural abilities of the supervisors to lead, interact, and communicate appears to be the factors to be a successful supervisor. Because of the various tasks and administrative duties that a supervisor performs, the continuous development on the profession is sought after.

Because of the criticisms received in the profession, there are impressions that should be demonstrated. The strong belief in the value and essence of their role remains the sole foundation of the supervisors to maintain their competency. Their knowledge, organizational skills, and leadership skills are the pillars of their confidence. The respect that they receive from the students and their co-workers opens the rapport and communication.
