Empirical Study of Small Scale Business

1.0 Introduction

An individual who plans to be engaged in a small business should understand different strategies that can clear their route for being profitable and successful. Unlike the large corporations, small scale businesses are basically founded by one owner which is also, in some events became the financer and the sole manager. Sole proprietorship is not easy, since all the business gains and losses are carried by one person. A combination of the psychological approach and knowledge-based characteristics can be the basic element of an owner to manage the strategies of suites for a small scale business.

1.1 Background of the Study

The concentration of the strategies is not only applied on large firms. In fact, the influence of the other firms with regards to the thinking, sequencing, and problem solving are adopted or otherwise started by the small scale-firm. Strategies are bur representation of answers that can be applied to the current business situation. With this reason, the study proposes the use of computers as well as their efficiency when applied to small scale business.

1.2 Statement of the problem

(1) How does computers and knowledge in information technology pursuits the success of a small business?

(2) How will the small business acquire the security features of the computers and other technologies?

1.3 Objectives of the Study

The main objective of the study is promoting the use of the technology as well as different computer programs that can enhance the use of different managerial techniques. Prior to that, is to enhance the knowledge of the owner in dealing with their business transactions and procedures.

1.4 Significance of the Study

The use of technology and other computer program is essential in terms of business procedures. In fact, these technological supports can help the business performance to gain stability and progress. It is important on the side of the owner to identify the right technology or computer usage for his nature of business. The study believed that mastering the essential knowledge of the computer is also considered as mastering the routes towards success.

1.5 Delimitation

Definitely, the study is only proposing right approach of the owner towards the different features of computers and scoping the possibility of its usage, but not attempting to introduce a brand of computer. The study is not meant to teach the step-by-step procedures but only sticking to its core objectives which is to help the owners realize the benefits of the computer and/or technology acquisition.

1.6 Research Design and Methodology

The design of the research is fueled by its purpose to introduce the technology support within the group of small business sector. The small business should not cease in developing and therefore, should not let them stay in the level of their performance where they have the ability to maximize their efficiency. Every business owners will receive the questionnaire that is related with their nature of business. It also includes on how often they use computers to help them to their business works. This computer help also involves the simple filing and computing.

Each respondent will be rated in their level of awareness about the computers and other technological supports, and be rated as follows:

1 – not aware or have a little knowledge

2 – aware but did not bother in taking any chances

3 – aware and only given a consideration

4 – planned the acquisition and attempting to implement some programs

5 – already applied and utilizing its benefits

1.6.1 Population and Sampling Techniques

Within the area, most specifically in rural populations, the sole proprietors shall be the example of the research. As guided by the research methodology, the questionnaires will be scattered for at least one hundred sole proprietors or families that had a small-scale business. The facilitators will first, measure if the business is still existing and the scope of the category includes that business that reached their highest profitability and loses in past years of the business existence.

1.6.2 Method & Type of Data Collected

The data are collected in the community where there are many business involved competing in the same area, are subject in the simulation of the research. The data are judged through the level of awareness of each and every owners living in the area. All the data are somehow related in detailing the importance of the technologies for the owners

1.6.3Data Analysis Method

The application of the computers and technological techniques allows improvement in the production, marketing and managing of the business transactions. Owners who are aware of the benefits they can get from the computer and technological techniques are optimistic in pursuing the future of their business.

1.7 Limitation of the Study

The difference of the results depends on the level of the business owner’s awareness and understanding about the essence of computers. They may seem aggressive upon realizing the importance of the computer and technology in their nature of business.
