Ethical Issues with Crime Statistics

Introduction

The role of ethics has been widely recognized in different statistical agencies. Its importance is elaborated and functioned in carrying out the needs of the data users which is mostly in governmental departments. The ethical issues are considered as part of the legality or in conformity with the permission in different administrative arrangements and scopes. The statistics is comprised with practices of involvement of ethical issues and at some point; the legality of the main subject excuses any further ethical examinations.

Basically, the different views of ethical issues that is attached in any criminal findings are offered with the medical studies and any other related information that will judge the action as a crime. The crimes against humanity were still under the circumstances of national or international law, policies and regulations in different perspective. For the past years, the role of ethical approach in an official statistics is somewhat related to different strong crimes such as murders, serial killings, or homicides (Seltzer, 2005; Morris and Zuluaga, 2006) . Moreover, the ethical issues enclosed in various statistical works were threatened in the value of their credibility in terms of such crimes. The ethical responsibilities, ethical codes, standards, and guidelines are the core values that are needed to develop and address in different agencies, for this is not the responsibility of just one person or the entire management.

Ethics

Ethics are the principles of right and wrong that appears on any individual’s action. This action is considered as free moral agents that make choices to guide the same individual’s behavior. Identifying the ethical issues in analyzing the crime statistics are also plagued with different challenges upon the investigation.

It is a great challenge in the first leg of the ethical investigation is identifying the players involved in the crime scenario. The players maybe focused on an individual or group that can specify the related connection towards the crime. The next thing that may come is the different ethical problems faced by the identified players such as moral dilemma where it can explain the action of the player/s. The third is to define the alternative solution upon determination of the problem and the investigator may formulate any options. The fourth procedure is to clarify the principles and the implications which highlight the values in different players. And finally, the solution of the problem should be stated to answer the involved ethical problem. The most appropriate solution is best suited with the rationale (Morris and Zuluaga, 2006).

In determining the crime, the collection of evidences, testimonies of witnesses and victim, as well as the suspects are all given priority before formulating the case scenario and hypothesis. Under this basic investigation, the identification of different ethical problems is already part of the process, where the investigators can process the best explanation towards the actions of the players.

Ethical Issues and Analysis

The problems and challenges in determining the different ethical issues in any crime are the relativity of the crime to the action or assaults happened, such as rape or murder. There are many issues identified involved in these scenarios such as the economic or interpersonal issues of the offender. At some edge of investigations, any person that commits fears or threats to other people is considered as crime which is another question in ethical issues. This makes the crime investigation more complicated and needs in-depth study (Taylor, 1999). In summary, all of the approaches in ethical issues is something to do with the creation of crime and in return, the ethical issues is also considered in crafting the crime statistics and as well as analysis.

In the field of criminology and investigation, the ethical issues create a big impact in the credibility of the crime statistics. The set of guidelines involved form the beginning of the investigation up to the end of the crime statistical findings, the ethical issues are clearly illustrated. The need of standardization of work is chosen in different field of operation (Hoover, 2007).
